Novo inks $1.3B deal for monthly — or even quarterly — GLP-1 shots

Novo will pay up to $1.3 billion to license technology from Sweden's Nanexa that could significantly change how patients take popular obesity drugs. Under the terms of the deal announced Friday, the Ozempic maker will help develop Nanexa's PharmaShell drug-delivery system — hopefully cutting the number of injections people need to just once a month or even once a quarter. Novo exec Brian Stidsen Vandahl explains, "As patient populations become increasingly diverse, we see value in pursuing different approaches that can help address varying needs, preferences and treatment experiences."

Visa charges Hims $75K for customer card disputes

Visa has enrolled Hims & Hers Health in its Acquirer Monitoring Program, citing an uptick in customer charge disputes during the month of July, WebNovare reports, citing internal documents. Hims will be required to pay an $8 surcharge for each challenge, for a total bill of almost $75,000. To be removed from the program, Hims must reduce its dispute rate to less than 1.5% of total transactions for three months in a row. The penalty comes as Hims faces a lawsuit from the Federal Trade Commission accusing the telehealth company of deceptive billing practices and customer privacy violations.

At a time when many employers are struggling to balance rising demand for GLP-1 drugs with their steep price tags, Bank of America is taking a decisive approach. CEO Brian Moynihan tells WebNovare that the firm spends over $250 annually covering drugs like Ozempic and Wegovy for staff, calling it "a good investment." That equates to 13% of total healthcare spending, given the bank allocates $2 billion for its 211,000 employees. Moynihan says the firm is aggressively pushing drugmakers and pharmacy benefits managers to lower prices for the drugs.
