Meta is trying to catch up to rivals with the release of its own coding agent. The social media giant on Wednesday unveiled Muse Code, a terminal-based AI assistant that handles software development tasks and aims to compete with coding tools from Anthropic's Claude and OpenAI's Codex. The agent is powered by the new Muse Spark 1.2 model and represents the latest major release by AI chief Alexandr Wang, who joined Meta in June of last year to help invigorate the company's languishing artificial intelligence strategy.

Meta launches its first coding agent

Meta is working to close the gap with its competitors by launching its own coding agent. On Wednesday, the social media company introduced Muse Code, a terminal-based AI assistant designed to handle software development tasks.

The new tool aims to compete directly with established coding solutions from Anthropic’s Claude and OpenAI’s Codex. Meta is seeking to strengthen its position in the rapidly growing market for AI-powered developer tools.

Muse Code is powered by the newly released Muse Spark 1.2 model. This updated model provides the underlying intelligence for the agent’s coding capabilities.

The launch marks another significant product release under AI chief Alexandr Wang. Wang joined Meta in June of last year with a mandate to revitalize the company’s artificial intelligence efforts.

His arrival came at a time when Meta’s AI strategy was widely viewed as lagging behind rivals. Muse Code represents a key step in the company’s push to regain momentum in advanced AI applications.
